The sun is out and glowing skin is in…During July and August, summer skincare is as important as a swimsuit—and a specially formulated summer face wash is a must. When combined with the following tips, your summer skin will stay glowing all season long:
SKIN SAVERS
We all know smart summer skincare starts with sunscreen. To protect your skin, an SPF of greater than 30 is recommended. Don’t forget to reapply often (especially after swimming) and remember to pay special attention to your lips as the heat makes them more susceptible to dryness and cracking. You can also protect yourself by wearing a wide brim hat or visor as well as lightweight, ventilated, sun-protective clothing for extended periods of time in the sun. And, of course, sunglasses to protect your eyes and prevent squinting.
SAY HELLO TO SERUM
When the air is dry in winter, our skin thirsts for heavier hydration. During the summer months, when the air is humid, skin retains more moisture so all you need is a light layer of serum. Make the switch as soon as the temperature starts to climb and revert back during the cooler months. If your skin is on the oilier side, cleanse with a face wash for oily skin in summer, followed by a lightweight hydrating serum to keep your face feeling smooth.
ELIMINATE EXCESS EXFOLIATION
Removing dead skin may reveal a brighter complexion, but it can also make your skin more sensitive and vulnerable to damage. When it comes to a face wash for summer season, reduce your exfoliation regimen to once or twice a week with a gentle scrub at night when your skin isn’t photosensitive. After exfoliation, your newly revealed skin needs all the protection it can get so applying SPF is a must.
A SCRUB FOR ALL SKIN TYPES
If you are stuck inside during the summer, excess air conditioning can cause dry skin. Oil scrubs are a perfect solution for this! They provide gentle exfoliation while replenishing any lost moisture. Check out the St. Ives Apricot Oil Scrub or the St. Ives Coconut Oil Scrub!
Best of all, there’s a scrub for every skin condition.
If you’re prone to breakouts and have dry skin, the St. Ives Acne Control Scrub, made with salicylic acid, gives a deep clean while replenishing lost moisture. And with 100% natural walnut shell and apricot pit powder, you can exfoliate and show off your summer glow.
HYDRATION. HYDRATION. HYDRATION.
In the summer months we’re more active than usual and we tend to sweat a lot more, too. That’s why it’s so important to stay hydrated. Start the day with an ample amount of water before going outside. Then, take regular water breaks throughout the day, especially before and after workouts. If skin is thirsty it will be less resilient, taking on a dry, flakey, tight appearance. We all know, that’s when the trouble starts and wrinkles creep in.
So, remember to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day to rid the skin of toxins while replenishing fluids. This will prevent dehydration, keep you cool and give your skin the extra TLC it needs during summer.
