None of our products contain animal derived ingredients with the exception of the St. Ives Collagen & Elastin Moisturizer and the St. Ives Collagen & Elastin Body Lotion, which contain collagen and elastin derived from a marine source. We formulate our products with a pH to maximize the efficacy of the formulation while minimizing any potential irritation, to remain compatible with the skin. The St. Ives products have the following pH ranges: Facial Products: 4 - 7 Body Wash: 5-6 Lotions 5-6.5
The presence of plastics in the marine environment is an important issue. Unilever stopped using plastic scrub beads in 2014 in response to concerns about microplastics in oceans and lakes. We had formerly used them in some of our exfoliating products. We now use alternative exfoliating ingredients, such as apricot kernels, cornmeal, ground pumice, silica and walnut shells, enabling people to feel confident that the Unilever face and body washes they use do not contribute to the accumulation of microplastics in the world’s oceans. Because we recognize the importance of preserving natural resources, our company is engaged in a series of programs designed to address a number of issues concerning the environment. These issues range from biodegradability to recycling. Our company actively participates in industry-wide coalitions and trade associations which are working toward solutions to solid waste problems. We have established a center devoted entirely to the development and testing of new packaging materials and concepts. Company efforts to reduce solid waste include recycling projects, packages which can be recycled and use of recycled materials. Our scientists are also conducting studies on a broad range of product formulas and ingredients to ensure their environmental compatibility.

As you can imagine, we receive thousands of requests for products throughout the year from many worthy organizations. Rather than reply to individual appeals, we have made the decision to provide product regularly to two not-for-profit organizations - Feeding America and Feed the Children - for distribution to relevant food banks and other qualified agencies that service needy members of our communities across the United States. Although we would like to support all the commendable causes that are brought to our attention, we simply are unable to do so.
While we have been pleased to provide support to numerous worthy causes for many years through both donations and sponsorships, our charitable funding, which is provided through the Unilever United States Foundation, Inc., has evolved in alignment with Unilever’s global charitable giving program. Unilever now focuses its giving on enriching the quality of life through the provision of hygiene, sanitation, access to safe drinking water, basic nutrition and improving self-esteem. Unilever has identified five global partners with which it works in order to deliver on this mission. We are also supporting two U.S. based organizations that are aligned with the Foundation’s mission. Additionally, the guidelines for the Unilever United States Foundation, Inc. preclude the use of financial grants for sponsorships, events, dinners or goodwill advertising.
