Coconut Oil Face Scrub: Is Coconut Oil Good For Your Face?
Coconut oil is causing quite a stir these days—and not simply in the baking sense. No joke, this popular ingredient has been used to increase hair growth and even freshen breath, but it’s truly a powerhouse when it comes to moisturizing the skin, especially your face. Still got questions? Check out these facts below. Afterwards, you just might go nuts (sorry, couldn’t help it!) for the stuff, too.
What does coconut oil do for your face?
The benefits of coconut oil on the skin are quite simple: It’s naturally anti-bacterial, acts as a great moisturizer and, frankly, smells ah-mazing.
You see, coconut oil is predominantly composed of saturated fats, which work to repair your skin’s natural barrier and soak in moisture. By keeping your skin cells hydrated, your skin retains a nice smooth surface. The lauric, capric and caprylic acids that are also in coconut oil’s composition help to fight off any bacteria (ugh, blech) from the day. As for its tropically delicious scent, well you can thank Mother Nature for that.
What kind of coconut oil is best for your face?
Depends on your skin type.
If you have dry skin (think flakiness, itchiness and overall feeling of tightness), coconut oil can soften skin and replenish lost moisture. Consider using a coconut oil scrub. It gives you the nourishment you need, along with a gentle exfoliation, using coconut shell powder and other beneficial ingredients.
For combination skin, meaning your skin has dry parts (typically around the eyes and cheeks) and oily parts (mainly in that nose-forehead-chin area), you’ll want a product that can tackle both areas. Try a coconut coffee scrub, which energizes and exfoliates thanks to its coconut extract and walnut shell powder.
Psst…in case you were wondering, we take good care of our coconuts. They are lovingly plucked from palm trees, and the coconut flesh is separated from the shells, washed and dried. Then, the oil is extracted from the flesh of the coconut. We also crush the shells and use them in our scrubs for gentle exfoliation.
Can coconut oil remove acne scars?
As if fighting breakouts wasn’t stressful enough, the stubborn scars and dark spots that linger can be just as frustrating. The after-effects of blemishes happen because of inflammatory activity in the skin and what’s left behind is pigmentation, texture, and tone that’s different from the rest of your skin. Moisturization is a key component in reducing the signs and symptoms of scars during this healing process, which is where the hydrating properties of coconut oil can help.
Is coconut oil good for wrinkles?
We know, we know, why think about wrinkles now. But unless you’ve discovered a magic potion that reverses time, skin aging is going to happen. And when it does, you’ll be super prepared. Because, coconut oil.
We’ve already gone over coconut oil benefits for the skin But there’s one other small component found in coconut oil that we haven’t touched on yet, and that’s Vitamin E—and it’s key for healthy skin. Not only is it known to keep skin smooth but it can also help prevent premature aging and wrinkling of the skin, because of its antioxidants. Plus when massaged into the skin daily coconut oil can help reduce wrinkles and reduce premature aging. Just a little something to remember down the road.
